County pays $14M for disputed site

MAPLE VALLEY — An undeveloped property once intended for an asphalt plant, at 18825 Renton-Maple Valley Road, sold last week for $14 million, according to King County records. The seller was Lakeside Industries, which acquired the 25-acre property in 2016 for $9.5 million. The asphalt plant proposal subsequently attracted much local opposition.

The buyer was King County, which began contemplating the purchase last year. The land sale deal was worth about $12 per square foot. The expanse will be preserved as public open space.
