WASHINGTON, D.C. — Construction input prices rose sharply in March, climbing 2.2% month over month and reaching their highest annual increase since January 2023, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors analysis of newly released U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Producer Price Index data.
Nonresidential construction input prices increased 2.3% for the month and are now up 5.4% from a year ago. The surge was driven largely by a 20.2% jump in crude petroleum prices, which offset steep declines in natural gas and unprocessed energy materials.
