John A. Martin & Associates recently announced the opening of a new office in downtown Seattle and the team members who will lead it.

Principal Kim Pacheco now manages the Seattle office. Her project experience covers a wide range of sectors including healthcare, education, telecommunications, aviation, civic, forensic investigation and commercial structures. Pacheco's vision for the Seattle office centers on applying the firm's national experience to benefit Pacific Northwest clients, and grow the firm's presence in the region.

Longtime Seattle resident John Nissen has practiced in the area for 30 years and is a principal at the firm. Nissen is a veteran structural engineer who brings creative expertise to everything he does. He manages a range of projects for long-term clients, including international telecommunications companies and information suppliers, among others. He serves as a mentor, sharing project approaches, advice and feedback on technical, career, and development questions.

Simms

Landscape architect Shannon Simms has been promoted to principal at Mayer/Reed. In this role, she co-leads the firm's urban design and landscape architecture group alongside Principal Jeramie Shane. Simms is experienced in public open space design with particular expertise in multimodal streetscapes. She is currently engaged in efforts to reimagine downtown Portland as a livable neighborhood and strengthen its relationship with the Willamette River. Her recent projects include the Green Loop Concepts and West End Street Plazas in Portland, and the Riverwalk in St. Helens, Oregon.

Landscape architect Michael O'Brien has been promoted to associate. With more than 30 years of professional experience, O'Brien brings design and management expertise and is valued for his mentorship of emerging landscape architects. He focuses on site context, ecological function and human experience. O'Brien's recent projects include Oregon Health and Science University's Children's Hospital expansion and Errol Heights Park in Southeast Portland.

Senior visual communications designer Margaret Drew has been promoted to associate. Drew approaches planning and designing wayfinding systems with an eye to being inclusive and to informing, guiding and connecting people across differences in language and ability. Her recent work includes leading signage standards for Multnomah County Library's 15-branch system.

Content coordinator/editor Stefanie Warmouth has been named associate, in recognition of her vital role in quality control, and promoting Mayer/Reed's story and culture by providing copyediting and communications expertise. Warmouth's recent initiatives include managing the firm's social media presence, and project-managing its 2025 Portland Winter Light Festival installation at Mill Ends Park.

Moffatt & Nichol has hired Joel Darnell as senior water resources engineer in its Seattle office. Darnell brings more than 20 years of experience delivering port, coastal, water resources and transportation projects. His background includes five years as capital project manager for the city of Seattle, giving him direct experience with delivery of complex municipal programs. He holds a master's degree in ocean engineering from Oregon State University and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Texas A&M University.

Parametrix has recently hired David Von Stroh as a senior consultant with the firm's mobility and data technologies practice. He has over 15 years of experience in transportation planning and data analytics. His areas of expertise include curb and parking data management, transit data applications, active transportation and climate resiliency. He has worked with public agencies across the western United States. His project experience includes work with King County Metro, Sound Transit, the Seattle Department of Transportation, Portland TriMet, Caltrans, Bay Area Rapid Transit, the Los Angeles Department of Transportation, Los Angeles Metro, Orange County Transportation Authority, and Southern California Association of Governments.

Scott Harmon recently joined Parametrix as a senior transportation engineer and project manager with the firm's transportation practice where he'll support transit, mobility and transportation projects throughout the Northwest. He brings nearly three decades of experience. His expertise includes traffic impact analysis, detailed transportation operations modeling, transportation needs assessments, signal operations, traffic management plans, corridor planning and concept design, active transportation management plans, and transportation system management and operations plans. He has worked with the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, California, and Utah Departments of Transportation as well as Oregon Metro, TriMet, Sound Transit, Southwest Washington Regional Transportation Council, and counties and cities throughout the Northwest.

Buchanan

Perkins&Will has hired Todd Buchanan as managing director of its Seattle studio. Buchanan has over 25 years of experience managing civic, healthcare and aviation projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. His recent local work includes the $1 billion, 350-bed Western State Hospital behavioral health campus in Lakewood, which is currently under construction, aiming for LEED Gold and Net Zero certification. He also worked with the Port of Seattle for over 10 years, including participating in the largest capital program in the port's history. Buchanan served as principal-in-charge for Kaiser Permanente's ambulatory surgery and specialty center expansion in Seattle.
